Pajaki, or “spiders of straw,” are a traditional folk craft of Poland, specific to the Lowicz region, which became popular in the mid 1800s. They were most commonly created from paper and straw during the colder months as decorations for Christmas and Easter. Following these holidays, some Pajaki would be ceremonially destroyed as an act believed to bring good luck and good health.
