The Phoenicians were the first glass makers to document their craft. Beginning in the middle of the 16th century B.C., they pioneered the technique of core forming which preceded glass blowing, instead coating a removable core form or shape on the end of a metal rod with molten glass. Through melting and wrapping glass cane around these forms, glass makers were able to create a variety of patterns, including the "feathered" pattern on these vessels. Vessels of this nature were often used to bottle perfume and became ubiquitous throughout the Mediterranean via the businesses of Phoenician traders. We were told these pieces are authentic, but we have our doubts...
