Zardozi is a form of embroidery which has been practiced in India since the 13th Century. The technique originated in Persia, as did its name, stemming from the persian words "zar" which translates to gold and "dozi" to embroidery. Zardozi utilizes the embroidery of coiled metal threads, manipulated to create a wide variety of effects, from lush voluminous filled surfaces to delicate thin lines and the setting of beads, pearls, and other embellishments.

Sayed Majid Ali is a master of zardozi embroidery, based in Varanasi, India, where he maintains a workshop and produces a wide variety of items. This limited-edition valentine was designed in collaboration with Jonathan Berger and produced exclusively for The Store at the AAM.
