"Ami" is a traditional Japanese pattern derived from the image of a fish net and most commonly found on ceramics and textiles. The pattern is both classic and increasingly rare in contemporary production.
These bowls are referential to the store "Mie Cin," which was owned and operated by the Hong family on Manhattan's Upper West Side throughout the 1980's. Mie Cin became known for their eclectic yet refined sensibility, combining seemingly disparate items like dollhouse miniatures with cloisonné figurines and ceramics from Mexico, Palestine, and Japan.
